The story begins with the main characters recalling a past event when Jem had broken his bone. The story is introduced as a flashback to our protagonist Scout Finch, who lives in Malcomb along with her brother Jem and her father, Atticus.
One summer, Scout and Jem had encountered a boy named Dill, whom they had become quick friends. Dill was interested in the famous story of their town, which is the Radley place which was infamous among their rather sleepy town and many kids were scared of it because of one person, in particular, Boo Radley, the person id in the centre of many gossips and who hasn’t been seen in years.
Scout’s father had taken on a case of defending a black man from rape accusations, and it was time for the trial; despite Atticus’s rather obvious testimony about it being a false accuse, the black man was still convicted guilty by the all-white jury.
Which had really shaken up Scout’s view of justice in the world.
The accuser’s father had still felt very ashamed and did several bad things, including attacking Scout and Jem, which brings us back to how he had broken a bone, but the kids were saved by none other than Boo Radley.
At the end of all Scout had witnessed throughout the book, scout’s view of the world had changed greatly, and she had gotten an understanding of just how cruel and unfair the world could get.
Scout decided to follow her father’s advice and now look at how the world is from other people’s perspectives.
This book was a rather inspirational one and a book that everyone should read at least once in their life.
